5 Questions to Get to Know Me
1. How did you get into Product Marketing? Like most people, I fell into this career path. Looking back on the various marketing positions in my career, I can connect the dots on how I landed in product marketing. My focus was on the customer and sales. My strengths appeared in user experience, persona research, and project management skills. When I landed in product marketing, all the pieces came to together!
2. What do you love about product marketing? I love building and connecting the pieces of a plan, much like a puzzle. First, I start with the customer. How do they think, believe, feel? What are they looking for? Then with that puzzle figured out, asking, “How will this product improve their life?” And finally, determining the strategy, channels/tactics to bring the product to market.
3. If you were a product, what would your slogan be? I leaned toward Nike’s “Just Do It.” I’m motivated to find the path to cross the finish line and get the product to market. My eye is on the goal and will “Just Do It” to have a successful launch—both for the customer and the business.
4. How would you describe product marketing? I would describe it as knowing your customer and connecting how your product will bring them joy/resolve their pain points. Once you know your customer, then can you apply the messaging and go-to-market plans to reach them with your product.
5. How do you get motivated to start your day? I start my morning by getting the body moving with a BeachBody workout (currently, my favorite program is The Work –phew!), followed by walking the big dog. I find that exercise in the morning gets me energized to start the day. And yes, coffee. Pete’s Coffee, black.
